Cleaning Feeders
Feeders should be cleaned regularly. If they are not cleaned regularly they can become inoperative due to the accumulation of dirt, hulls and other waste. To clean feeders, remove old seed. Soak feeders in a light water/bleach solution of 10 parts water and one part bleach. Scrub the feeder well with a scrub or bottle brush. Thoroughly rinse the feeder and allow it to completely dry before refilling it. This type of though cleaning should be done two to three times a year or as needed.
Between cleaning excess seed build-up should be removed. Give hanging feeders a good shake before refilling with fresh seed. If the seed is compacted in the bottom of the feeder, pour it out and fully clean the feeder. A spoon is handy for removing old seed from platform and hopper feeders before refilling.
